Manny's Story part 4

The Mother ruler wanted Manny banished to the "display area." The place you put stuff you don't want damaged to forget about them. Everything here had been there for ages and resented an ugly wooden object invading their place. They sneered at his missing foot, and the fact that his arm and leg were held on my safety pins. Sure his face was permanent marker, his color food coloring, but he knew that his owner had loved him the way he was, otherwise he would have been thrown away. Up until today he had been on the counter in the kitchen saying hello to everyone who passed by him. His owner and her brother would always be able to spare a moment to play with him or tell a joke.
Through the dusty glass he could see the room with the Rulers in it and was sad for the others in the case with him. They were never looked at, they were never played with or picked up because they were too fragile or "special." He missed his place, there he had known where he stood and was happy.
As he slipped further into depression he didn't notice his owner approaching.
